Big Arms Gone, Big Bats Cash In
With C.C Sabathia and A.J Burnett joining the New York Yankees, this leaves numerous teams scrambling for offensive firepower. Complicating matters even further for other franchises is reports of the Yankees also pursuing both Manny Ramirez and Mark Teixeira.
Whichever team misses out on Teix will unquestionably have some interest in the taxing yet highly effective Manny Ramirez. You can anticipate the Boston Red Sox to throw everything at Teix realizing Manny is not a sound choice for plan B. If Boston wins on signing Teix, expect David Ortiz to be placed on the trading block asap.
Rumored teams to be involved with Mark Teixeira are the Boston Red Sox, L.A Angels, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Washington Nationals. Buster Olney of Espn.com received word that unless Teix is willing to give a major hometown discount to the Orioles they are indeed out of the running.
According to MLB.com, the Nationals' offer stands at $160 million for eight years. Although the Red Sox are considered among the front-runners for Teixeira, they won't offer him a 10-year deal, principal owner John Henry said.
Manny may be flirting with the idea of retirement but until Teixeira is locked up he shouldn’t expect many offers. Once Teix drops the cash will come. The years may not, but the cash will.
