Imagine all the Big Macs you could buy for $140 million?1. C.C. Sabathia - Angels. A month ago I would have said The Yankees without a doubt. I just find it interesting that C.C is actually thinking over receiving close to $150 million dollars. My guess? He doesn’t want to take the deal, his agent and the union believes he should. Once somebody else gets close to the Yanks offer, he’ll sign. I think the Angels will be that team.
2. Mark Teixeira - Yankees. Yankees want C.C, Angels want Teix. Neither team will get what they really want (and need) so they will flip flop. Sure the Yankees don’t need more offense, but seeing Teixeira with A-Rod back to back in the lineup does sound exciting.
3. Manny Ramirez - Dodgers. He did so much in such a little amount of time I think The Dodgers have to keep Manny. He sells tickets and merchandise, so making the cash back shouldn’t be a problem. What he will end up looking like in left field will be. Either way, he’ll be hitting godlike well into his early 40’s.
4. Francisco Rodriguez - Mets. Is it truly this complicated? You take your team’s most palpable flaw and you fill that void with the game’s best player at that position. Everybody can break down K-Rod’s stats all they want, the man saved 62 games. You put him at the back end of The Mets bullpen last season, they make the playoffs. Simple as that.
5. A.J. Burnett - Yankees. I believe after C.C signs with the Angels, Brian Cashman will go into panic mode and start a pinstripe signing frenzy. Burnett will be part of those signings. They have already offered him a deal with a disagreement being the years. If C.C goes to California you can believe Burnett will be getting 6 years.
6. Derek Lowe - Yankees. Like I said, once C.C goes Yanks are going to sign all the plan B’s. This makes the rotation Wang, Burnett, Joba, Lowe, Hughes.
7. Orlando Hudson – White Sox. Could be a nice fit in an offense that has the potential to be outstanding. Reports are Alexi Ramirez is going to be shortstop which opens up 2nd for Orlando.
8. Adam Dunn - Nationals. The Nats attempted to make a free agent splash last year with Torii Hunter and are rumored to be into Teixeira this year. They won’t be able to outbid everybody for Teix, but Adam Dunn could be a nice cleanup hitter for Washington.
9. Pedro Martinez- Mets. The rotation right now is Santana, Pelfrey and Maine. They will get Pedro back, but for under $11 million per.
10. Ben Sheets - Braves. Braves were going after Peavy hard so it is obvious they want an ace. Sheets without a doubt can be an ace, but he just can’t stay healthy. Somebody is going to take the risk.
11. John Smoltz - Braves. He is still has gas in the tank, Braves would be stupid to let him go.
12. Raul Ibanez – Blue Jays. A very consistent hitter, The Jays could use a nice bat to replace what Frank Thomas was supposed to provide.
13. Pat Burrell - Phillies. Sure he is inconsistent but he’s still good for at least 30 homeruns a year. With major pieces of the puzzle going down to surgery in the offseason I can’t see the Phills letting another piece get away.
14. Bobby Abreu - Mets. He’s Spanish, He’s in. Seriously though, Abreu would fit great in the Mets lineup. He is patient at the plate, competent in the field, still has speed and can hit 15-20 homeruns. Reyes, Beltran, Abreu, Wright, Delgado. I like it.
15. Brian Fuentes - Angels. I can’t see the Angels letting 60+ saves just walk away without a proven replacement. Many teams are gunning for him, but I believe Angels are going to need his closing experience.
16. Andy Pettitte –Dodgers. Why not? He is tight with Joe Torre, The Yankees haven’t been that open to a return and he is the perfect replacement for Derek Lowe.
17. Rafael Furcal - Dodgers. Furcal was having an unbelievable year before getting hurt. He is a great shortstop when healthy and Dodgers really don't have a replacement.
18. Ivan Rodriguez - Astros. They always seem to have the right pieces in place before things fall apart. Pudge would just be another free agent to get that team rolling once again.
19. Edgar Renteria - Cardinals. The American League hasn't worked out for Renteria. If he'll take a one-year deal, the Cardinals should bring him back. He is a steal in the National League and a bust in the American. Cardinals should take the steal.
20. Jason Giambi - Giants. I know you are all thinking The Giants are old enough but they are dreadful on offense. Why not give these young guns some runs support? Giambi is still good for at least 25 home runs and he should come relatively cheap for the power numbers he’ll put up. Won’t get a long term deal either.
21. Orlando Cabrera - Tigers. He will just replace what the team believed Renteria should have produced. Very underrated player.
22. Jamie Moyer - Phillies. Again The Phils would be wise to try and keep whatever they can from their World Series team.
23. Kerry Wood - Brewers. Brewers closer Torres announced he plans to retire which will bring in Kerry Wood to close. Watching Wood and Eric Gagne compete for the closing position should be tremendous
24. Jason Varitek - Red Sox. Varitek may be trying to play hardball with the Sox but he will realize very quickly old catchers who hit .220 don’t fetch an awfully lucrative contract. He ONLY has value to The Red Sox; he’ll resign there for a decent price.
25. Randy Johnson - Astros. He gets to stay in the National League and maybe he can help an Astros rotation that struggled greatly last season. Astros will be looking for this type of deal with Pettitte as well. One year deal only though.
26. Oliver Perez - Rangers. Scott Boras doesn’t care about what league you pitch best in, what type of area you want to live in, or how well you will perform. He goes where the money is. Perez is young, left handed and is oozing with potential. There is definitely a team dumb enough to go after him with colossal cash, and The Texas Rangers fit the bill.
27. Paul Byrd - Pirates. The Pirates are said to want to add a veteran starter. Neal Huntington knows Byrd from his Cleveland days. Plus it will give the Pirates an extra player to trade at the deadline.
28. Jon Garland - Brewers. With Sabathia and Sheets out, Garland can step in to eat some innings.
29. Brad Penny - Brewers. Everybody seems to be forgetting Penny won 16 games back to back before his injury riddled season in 2008. Many teams will be looking for a bargain pitcher, Penny may be the best one out there. Like Garland, Brewers are going the cheap route to replace Sheets and Sabathia.
30. Trevor Hoffman - Padres. Regardless of what both sides say, I have a feeling they will work it out.
